Gardening can be a wonderful, soothing hobby for most people. It is calm, quiet and allows you to help life form, and thrive right before your very eyes. If you are growing fruits, vegetables, or herbs, you also get to literally enjoy the fruits of your labor and take them in to contribute towards the coming meals. It's quite the experience to grow plants at home. As wonderful as it might be, we have to acknowledge that not everyone has a large garden to visit day-to-day. Unfortunately, not everyone has a green thumb for helping a garden to flourish either. One good alternative to consider though is getting a terrarium. They are small and contain plants that are pretty easy to maintain. A very fine example of a terrarium is a Wardian case. It is such a sight, it is sure to make your terrarium blur the distinction between house plants and home decor.

What is a Wardian case?

A Wardian case is a particular type of terrarium. It is actually one of the oldest types of terrariums created. It resembles a miniature greenhouse, with clear glass walls and a glass roof.

1. Pick Out Your Wardian Case

A Wardian case is a category, not an exact item, so there are actually quite a few styles of them you can find. You can take a look at a simple little terrarium that could easily sit on top of a small table in your living room or a larger stand-alone terrarium that stands on its own. This stunner in particular has curved walls leading to a point, on either end. Although the focus is meant to be more on what is inside of the terrarium, the glass panels and covers of these Wardian cases are too beautiful to just ignore.

2. Put Your Plants Inside

Once you have your terrarium picked out, you will need to put your plants inside. The main goal is to create a balanced, happy little ecosystem, where everything lives together in harmony. To achieve that, you must pick plants that have needs met by terrarium life. Pick out plants that thrive on humidity and indirect sunlight. It should go without saying, but you also need to choose plants that are small and stay small.

3. Maintain the Terrarium

Finally, you will want to pay attention to the needs of your terrarium, which thankfully aren’t too much. Turn the terrarium so that all the plants get light and open the top to let air through. Besides that, there isn’t too much. Keep it clean and fertilize every now and then.

That should be enough to get you started on making your own Wardian case terrarium. You get to have your cake and eat it too. You get the garden of thriving plants you wanted, plus the joy of knowing that you will actually be able to keep them all alive and right in your home. For help on taking the first step, you can go to H Potter online and find plenty of Wardian cases. You are so close to having your dream terrarium, don’t hesitate now!
